Open Championship Golfers – an Overview

There are a group of young golfers who have recently added immense depth to the European Tour and to a lesser extent to the PGA Tour and these are the men tipped to drink out of the Claret Jug sometime in the near future.

Hail Harrington – Double Open Champion

We all know of the fantastic touch and sublime skill of Padraig Harrington, the one Briton who has grabbed the opportunity of an absentee world number one, Tiger Woods, and has claimed both the grand slams the American could not contest due to injury in 2008.
We are also aware of the incomparable standards set by the one man who has changed the face of professional golf, Tiger Woods himself and we are all united in our praise of the other giants of the game – Vijay Singh, Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els, Angel Cabrera and many, many more.
We have, however, set our sights on the young Turks, the men still learning their trade, the golfers of the future and these are the men who will surely be adding grand slam titles to their resumes very soon.

American Domination a thing of the Past

What is exciting is the days of American domination seem to have come to a fitting close and there are currently more talented young men on the European Tour today than there are on the PGA Tour – quite a turn around for the books as far as history goes. Many of these young golfers will be out en force at Valhalla soon to prove to their Ryder Cup captains they have the talent and mental toughness to guide golf into the future and these men are –

  • Henrik Stenson – top ranked Swede and another of Faldo’s qualifiers
  • Ross Fisher – European Open Champion
  • Martin Kaymer – two time tour title holder in 2008
  • Nick Dougherty – the Englishman who shot a sublime 68 in the opening round of the 2008 US Open
  • Anthony Kim – the man who is very likely to fill the large boots of countryman, Tiger Woods, sometime in the future
  • Robert Karlsson – the ‘late starter’ who had three top ten finishes and one top twenty finale at all four of the majors of golf in 2008
