Kaymer takes spotlight ahead of British Open
Gemany’s Martin Kaymer marked himself as a player to watch at the forthcoming Open Championship by winning the 2009 Scottish Open at Loch Lomond on Sunday.
Kaymer carded a final round 69 to take the Scottish Open by two shots. The German’s victory was his second in a fortnight, coming after a victory in the French Open last weekend.
The last player to claim both the French and Scottish Opens ahead of the British Open was Ian Woosnam, who achieved this feat in 1990.
This feat suggests that the 2007 European Rookie of the Year may be one of the main challengers at the British Open which starts at Turnberry on Thursday.
"Everyone asks me about the third win in a row," Kaymer said on the weekend. "We are playing a major next week. And the field is going to be the best we have all year long. After last week and this week, I feel really good, my game is solid, so hopefully, I can keep it up."
Kaymer is currently priced amongst the top 10 in British Open betting markets, with bookies averaging a price of 25/1 for the Scottish Open winner. No Scottish Open winner has ever gone on to claim victory at the British Open.
